Freeing the Brainpower: Automating Reports to Free Capacity
PMA’s Daniel Posada and Ernesto Toxqui presented at the Trimble Innovate 2025 User Conference in Salt Lake City in October, where they shared how automation transformed a complex and time-consuming reporting process for the Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation.
The PMO of the Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation, operating in a high-growth region, faced a recurring challenge: valuable staff were spending significant time each month manually preparing leadership reports. To address this, PMA Consultants were tasked with automating the reporting process to free up key resources. The goal was to eliminate over 20 hours of manual effort each month through automation. Faced with the challenge of managing over 5,000 records monthly across 500+ projects within a multi-year, multi-billion-dollar program, the team tackled fragmented data inputs and strict formatting requirements as well as highly sensitive information with varying access levels. Their solution focused on automating the final stages of the monthly reporting process—formatting, QA, and distribution—using Trimble Unity Construct and Power BI. They integrated 10+ data rules into DAX measures, consolidated inputs from three Trimble exports and one semantic model, and generated over 10 district- and commissioner-specific reports with rapid turnaround. The result was a streamlined, accurate, and efficient reporting system that reclaimed over 20 hours per month for PMO leaders, enabling them to focus on strategic decision-making.
