United Airlines Maintenance Hangar
Overview
United Airlines Corporate Real Estate Planning & Development (CRE) is constructing a $200 million cutting-edge five-bay commercial aircraft hangar complex at Orlando International Airport. Specifically tailored for maintenance repair operations, this center for innovation caters to a diverse fleet that includes Boeing 737, 767, 777, and 787 aircrafts, and narrow-body and wide-body Airbuses. The complex integrates three key functions: a heavy maintenance repair facility, a line maintenance facility, and a warehouse. By consolidating these functions into a single larger complex, United aims to optimize fleet performance and operational efficiency.
PMA Role
PMA leads the project management team (PMT) responsible for guiding the successful delivery of United Airlines’ new complex through all phases—initial planning, preconstruction, construction, and post-construction. Acting as the owner’s representative, the PMT coordinates across a broad range of stakeholders, including the landlord, various United Airlines departments (Facility Maintenance, IT, Environmental Affairs, and CRE), external vendors, and contracted firms. The PMT also manages day-to-day projects and construction operations. Tasks include providing oversight of schedule and budget control to track alignment with the CRE project management life cycle and United Airlines procurement protocols, as well as employing industry best practices to meet strict compliance standards. The team uses Microsoft Office, Procure, and United’s proprietary Plan Plus platform to provide document and project controls services.
