In honor of National Intern Day, we’re shining a spotlight on three of our outstanding interns who bring energy, creativity, and fresh perspectives to our team this summer. Please join us in celebrating Sophia Miller, William Webber, and Catherine Buckley for their hard work, curiosity, and contributions that have made a real impact. Whether tackling projects, supporting their teams, or simply bringing positive vibes to the office, these interns have truly made their mark. We’re so grateful to have them with us and can’t wait to see where their journeys take them next!
Sophia Miller / SoCal/LA Metro
Sophia Miller comes to us from George Washington University where she is a junior majoring in civil environmental engineering. Currently she is honing her project management skills working on the LA Metro G Line Improvement project, updating construction progress sets, and organizing and reviewing key project documents.
Sophia reports her intern superpower as “learning lightning fast” and coffee and music are her favorite hacks to fuel her productivity.
What’s been your favorite intern moment so far?
Not a singular moment, but my favorite part about my internship is seeing the blueprints I look at in the office translate to real work. My highlight every week is going to the project site and walking and talking with the construction leads about what has been done to update Metro’s progress sets.
What’s one skill you’ve learned that surprised you?
Learning how to efficiently maneuver a new software, Bluebeam, which I will continue to use in my professional career is a gained skill I will always look back on and be grateful for.
What’s your dream job title 10 years from now?
A project manager of meaningful improvement projects or director of international infrastructure projects. For example, a program engineer for Engineers Without Borders or a project manager of a project like the one I am on now, improving our world.
What’s one piece of advice you’d give to future interns?
Don’t be scared to ask questions. I’d recommend finding someone in your office you feel comfortable asking questions from. It is better to ask questions and understand what you need to do and what is going on rather than do something wrong and be in the dark throughout your internship program. Everyone understands that you are learning, and you want to make the most of the opportunity.
William Webber / Braintree Office
Will is a junior at Wentworth Institute in Boston and brings six years field experience as an apprentice electrician. He is currently assigned to the Bristol Plymouth Regional Voc Tech project in Taunton and the Easton Public Safety & Fire Sub Station where he is busy tracking payroll submissions and CORI records as well as preparing monthly reports and newsletter updates. He also works on monthly MSBA OPM reporting and clerk-of-the-works operations.
Will considers himself “a fast learner with good instruction” and is proud of his improvement in managing multi-tasking more effectively. He is a fan of coffee and energy drinks to power through the day. He also relies on the music he loves and “to-do” lists to aid his productivity.
What’s been your favorite intern moment so far?
My favorite part of my internship with PMA so far has to be the people I work with. When you enjoy what you do and get along really well with the people you work with, you look forward to going to work in the morning and you take more pride in the work that you’re doing.
What’s one skill you’ve learned that surprised you?
I was surprised at how much more comfortable I am with managing multiple tasks and projects at once. Not only has this helped me with my work, but I also find that I am able to balance my workload and school schedule much more effectively.
What’s your dream job title 10 years from now?
Sr. Associate, or Director
What’s one piece of advice you’d give to future interns?
My advice to a future intern at PMA would be to try and learn something new every day. Whether it’s taking on a new task, or just getting to know the people around you, it will make you a more effective team member, as well as feeling more included.
Catherine Buckley / Braintree Office
Catherine Buckley provides support to the Braintree Marketing Team. She comes to PMA from the University of Wisconsin─Madison where she is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in information sciences & consumer behavior and marketplace studies. She is also a club ice hockey team member at UW-Madison and brings experience as a varsity ice hockey player for Phillips Academy.
As a PMA intern, Cat is a master of multi-tasking and fuels her productivity with her favorite drink─coffee─and loves to listen to music.
What’s been your favorite intern moment so far?
My favorite moment as an intern has been getting to meet so many inspiring people at PMA. Everyone has a genuine interest in my goals and having their support has been amazing! Also, the golf clinic at the Summer Social was a lot of fun.
What’s one skill you’ve learned that surprised you?
I did not expect to be able to read through RFPs and proposals while actually understanding the content in them. At first, they seemed very technical, but now I can follow the structure pretty well. It has been awesome to see how much I’ve picked up from just being around the process!
What’s your dream job title 10 years from now?
UX/UI Designer
What’s one piece of advice you’d give to future interns?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions. It’s better to ask a clarifying question than to stay unsure.
