City of San José-Santa Clara Regional Wastewater Facility

Overview

The San José-Santa Clara Regional Wastewater Facility, the largest advanced wastewater treatment facility in the western United States, is undergoing $470 million in modernizations and rebuilding aging infrastructure as part of its 10-year $1.4 billion capital improvement program. This program will improve efficiency and reliability, with key elements such as providing new biosolids (sludge) dewatering and drying processes to better control odors and reduce the operational footprint. New methods of generating energy to sustainably power facility operations are also included in the project scope.

PMA Role

PMA provides construction management controls, scheduling, and estimating services for active capital improvement program projects. The projects include four main tasks: project management, project cost control estimating, project scheduling, and claims. Beyond the standard duties this includes, PMA negotiated multiple change orders and time extension requests, helping San Jose avoid schedule delays and increased cost.
