Santa Clara Valley Water District Anderson Dam Tunnel
Overview
This $180 million project includes the construction of an underground tunnel in the right abutment at Anderson Dam to release and regulate water flows from the reservoir. This tunnel will later be used by the larger Anderson Dam seismic retrofit project to facilitate full reservoir drawdown and will be converted into a larger diversion system to bypass flows during removal and replacement of the existing dam. A downstream diversion outlet control structure will house two 132″-diameter fixed cone valves connecting to concrete-enclosed dissipation chambers that discharge into a rip-rap-lined discharge channel leading into Coyote Creek, which will receive modifications to reopen the northern Coyote Creek channel. The reservoir bank and rim stability work may include a range of physical improvements to protect the reservoir rim from potential landslides. Work also includes concrete weirs, roadwork, utility relocation, traffic controls/detours, fencing, soil testing as required for off-site disposal, miscellaneous concrete and other miscellaneous work, revegetation, and community outreach coordination.
PMA Role
PMA provides comprehensive master scheduling services, encompassing tasks such as configuring schedule submittal procedures, conducting baseline submittal reviews and approvals, facilitating stakeholder review workshops, performing baseline schedule risk analyses, generating weekly risk and exposure reports, and managing cash flow development and control. To identify concurrent delays and issues occurring weekly, PMA used a “live” delay tracking mechanism that helped mitigate time extensions on the project.
