Overview
The $10.3 million North Acton Fire Station project involves the demolition of an existing structure, construction of a new 11,815-SF structure, rehabilitation of an existing garage structure, and general sitework. The new facility includes three apparatus bays (two of which are drive-through) with a one-story building that contains five bunk rooms, a day room, kitchen, watch room, training room, and support spaces. The site abuts wetlands and was reviewed extensively with the Boston Conservation Commission to ensure all town and state requirements were met. The station was designed to be off the gas distribution system by utilizing an all-electric geothermal heating and cooling system. The project scope also includes solar panels on the roof.
PMA Role
PMA provided owner’s project management services for the design, bidding, and construction phases of this project. Our team worked on behalf of the owner to verify that the design is consistent with the established goals, objectives, and project budget and also negotiated the final scope of services dependent on the phase of the project and the needs of the town.
