South Dade Electric Bus Maintenance Facility Project
Overview
The South Dade Electric Bus Maintenance Facility, with a budget of $300 million, is designed to support bus routes in South Miami-Dade County, including the South Corridor Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. To accommodate the new fleet of approximately 100 battery-electric articulated buses, additional maintenance and operations facilities are required for the existing South Dade transit services. For the facility to meet the needs of a fleet of 100, 60-foot articulated battery electric buses, the scope of work includes the following: bus maintenance; bus operations and administration; parts storage; body repair; paint areas; service and wash lanes; security and vault pull; south corridor gate arm maintenance; facilities and system maintenance; 100 bus parking spaces that include space for overhead pantograph battery electric bus charging (configured in a 1:2 charger-to-dispenser ratio) and associated electrical utility yard; and employee or visitor parking.
PMA Role
During the creative and evaluation phases of the Value Engineering (VE) job plan, the VE team successfully generated, evaluated, and scored 41 original ideas. Additionally, two more ideas were added during the development phase. Through careful analysis and assessment, the VE team identified potential savings of $19,389,000 for the overall project, with an estimated total cost of $192,152,188. This highlights the significant value and cost-saving opportunities identified through the VE process.
