Overview

The University of Chicago Medicine is undertaking construction of an $815 million stand-alone, world-class cancer care and research facility to address diminishing resources in the city of Chicago. The 575,000-SF, 8-floor structure will contain 80 private beds (64 medical and 16 ICU) for cancer patients. Scope also includes areas to accommodate overnight family member stays; 90 outpatient exam and consultation rooms; an assessment urgent care clinic that limits exposure to other patients; infusion therapy rooms; a breast center with screening, diagnostic imaging, and biopsy spaces; clinical and research areas; and mechanical and support floors. The center expects to treat more than 200,000 outpatient and 5,000 inpatient patients annually and will be equipped with the latest cancer imaging equipment with capability for future expansion and growth.
